Seen in the photo is Dr. Julie Margenthaler, breast surgeon and associate professor of surgery at Washington University wearing the new technology. The goggles haven't received a name yet, however their possibilities are outstanding. The new technology will help the user spot cancer cells much easier, making it easier for the surgeon to remove all cancer cells and making it less likely for a patient to have to attend a follow up surgery. The new technology works by first the surgeon injected a flourescent marker that makes the cancer cells brighten up a light shade of blue. The goggles allow the surgeon view the distinct colors and remove those cells. The goggles are still in development and don't even have a name yet. Dr. Julie Margenthaler is raving about the goggles because they eliminate the follow surgeries as well as the anxiety and extra pain of the surgeries. The main goal of the goggles is "To leave no cancer cell behind". Hopefuly this can be achieved. Full article here.
